They say you should write about what you know.

In photography, you don't often get that luxury. When you photograph something on assignment, you are quickly learning about your subject and medium on the fly. As a photographer, having a great width of information tends to be a bit more valuable then having a great depth of knowledge in any one area.

That's why I was very pleased to have an opportunity to photograph the NDSU Winter Drum Line. I come from a musical past, and spent nearly 10 years teaching similar organizations in the area. As an alumnus of NDSU, I am very happy to see the students there have this sort of opportunity.

Founded in 2009, the Gold Star Winter Drum Line is one of numerous musical opportunities available to students at North Dakota State University. A natural outgrowth of the NDSU Gold Star Marching Band, the Winter Drumline performs at Basketball Halftimes and percussion festivals throughout the area. Headed by a former colleague of mine they have very quickly created a quality performance ensemble that the University can be proud of.

I know I am.
